Harare Residents Trust has urged the Harare City Council to retire tired workforce complaining that the council has a bloated workforce.
The trust said Harare City Council claims that it bills 200 000 properties and if at each household unit in all the billing zones pays at least US$10 every month, the Council will likely receive plus US$2 million.
"This figure excludes business and Government buildings. If these are factored in, the council will likely be receiving US$4 million plus, bringing the total to around US$6 million," said the trust. "There is also one thing the council has neglected to talk about- the parking fees. There are more opportunities to raise revenue for the council, only if they work with stakeholders."
The trust said the City's workforce is bloated, and the HRT calls on the council to continue to rest tired employees above 65 years.
"Retired employees must not be replaced for two years, while the council re-deploys people to areas of their highest competence," said the trust.
