A Bulawayo man allegedly fatally stabbed a rival suitor on Christmas Day.

Lindani Caphu of Cowdray Park suburb yesterday appeared before West Commonage magistrate Temba Chimiso facing a murder charge.

He allegedly stabbed Limukani Ncube, 24, on both shoulders with a kitchen knife, leading to his death.

The two, the court heard, were fighting over a girlfriend.

Chimiso remanded Caphu in custody to January 11, 2016.

Prosecuting Maria John said on December 25, 2015 at around 9PM in Cowdray Park suburb Caphu killed Ncube.

"Caphu unlawfully and intentionally caused the death of Ncube. He stabbed him once on the right shoulder and once on the left shoulder."

"He stabbed Ncube realising that there's risk that his conduct may cause death. Ncube died from excessive bleeding," said the prosecutor.

The court heard that a bleeding Ncube was taken to Empopini Police Base in a wheelbarrow, but he died on the way.

The court heard Caphu left the knife and fled from the scene but he was later tracked down and arrested.

Caphu's lawyer Prince Butshe appealed to the court to allow Caphu to seek treatment saying he was injured in the fight.

"I want the court to assist in ensuring my client receives treatment while in prison. There are indications that the two were fighting and in the process the accused sustained injuries on the head and left arm," said Butshe.

Chimiso ordered that Caphu should access treatment while in remand prison.
