A 27-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo's Selborne Park suburb was arraigned before the courts after he allegedly bashed his wife with a frying pan for bringing her relatives to the matrimonial home.

The alleged wife basher, Ernest Nezara, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Abednico Ndebele where he was being charged for contravening section 3(1) of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.

It is the State's case as presented by prosecutor Mr Marlvin Nzombe that on 3 June at around 6 pm, the complainant, Lumuno Mbewe, was visited by her cousin.

It is said that later on Mbewe and the cousin visited another person in the suburb. The court heard that when they came back after an hour, the husband started to verbally insult the wife on why she had brought her relatives to their home.

It said the complainant tried to reason with the husband but he would have none of it when he allegedly bashed her with fists all over the body.

As if that was not enough, Nezara went on to arm himself with a frying pan and hit the hapless wife on the face and the body.

The court further heard that after he assaulted his wife, Nezara went on to chase her away before locking her out of the gate. The injured woman went to lodge a complaint to police leading to the arrest of her husband.

Nezara was remanded out of custody for trial.
