An elderly couple from Harare is embroiled in a maintenance war at the civil court as Gogo Galdencia Togarepi dragged her husband Khulu Simpilisio Munetsi to the court claiming $1 500 for the upkeep of their seven and 18 year old children.
Togarepi demanded that her husband must give her $700 for the up keep of the seven year old child as he is a retired soldier who gets pension and also works as a security guard.
Munetsi reportedly has a plot with 61 cattle and Togarepi said this wealth can assist in taking good care of the children.
But Munetsi surprised the court when he only offered to pay $50 per month saying his wife is the one who gets $250 from their house rentals and he assumed it was enough to take care of the children. He said he gets $200 from his pension which also is used to pay workers at his plot.
Magistrate Trevor Nyatsanza ordered Munetsi to pay $80 per month as from January 31.
