Manica Post reported that the court gallery in Mutare was left in roars of laughter after the man said his wife was a sex worker whom he paid whenever he wanted to engage in sex with her.
All this was revealed after Misheck Manapa had dragged Caroline Marange to the Mutare Civil Courts seeking a protection order against her.
Appearing before Magistrate Anniah Ndiraya, Manapa t said Marange was not his wife but a gold digging sex worker who was taking advantage of his bachelorhood.
He said the few times that he had had sex with Marange, he had begged her and paid her for her services since it was her way of doing business.
"The pregnancy that she is carrying is not mine because I was only her sex client since I had to pay her after service at all times. At one time, she even confiscated my phone after I had failed to pay for sex and would that be a wife?
"Your Worship, it is unrealistic to hear that a sex worker was impregnated by a client, it is not my pregnancy and she should leave my house," said Manapa.
Even though Marange insisted that Manapa was her husband, the latter dismissed the claims and told the court that the former was only a sex worker that he usually hired and was now trying to take advantage of him.
To prove his claims, Manapa told the court to ask Marange if she knew his full names, to which she remained mute.
"Your Worship, this woman claims to be my wife yet she does not even know my name, who in their right mind does not know their husband's name?
"If you ask her my name right now, she will tell you that my name is "Baba Simba" because that is what she knows for she is a sex worker. One does not go around telling sex workers one's name," he said angrily.
It was also revealed to the court that when Marange had made a police report on Manapa she had used the name Baba Simba since she did not know his full names.
Marange insisted that Manapa was her husband and that she was carrying his child.
She told the court that he at many occasions had visited her aunt who stays in Dangamvura and informed her that he was the one staying with her.
"I will not leave his place because I am carrying his child. Besides, I have never been violent towards him, all I want is for him to take care of me because I am expecting," was all she could tell the court.
Ndiraya advised him to apply for an eviction order if he wanted to evict Marange, pending the eviction application however, the peace order was granted to Manapa against Marange.
