THE Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) has re-deployed High Court judge Justice Nicholas Mathonsi back to Bulawayo as part of a routine exercise aimed at strengthening its operations.
JSC secretary Justice Rita Makarau yesterday confirmed Justice Mathonsi's transfer from the Harare High Court to Bulawayo. His transfer is with effect from January 11.
Prior to his transfer to Harare, Justice Mathonsi was stationed at the Bulawayo High Court.
"I can confirm that JSC has redeployed Justice Mathonsi to our Bulawayo station with effect from January 11, 2016. The transfer of judges is a routine exercise that JSC undertakes from time to time to strengthen our operations in as far as the delivery of justice is concerned," said Justice Makarau.
Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku last year named some of the top performing and hardworking judges, and Justice Mathonsi was one of them.
Opening the 2015 legal year in Harare, the Chief Justice singled out Justice Mathonsi for special mention after the former Harare High Court judge wrote a staggering 72 judgments in 2014.
The country's top judge listed other hard workers in the top five as Justices Nokuthula Moyo (Bulawayo), Priscilla Chigumba (Harare), Loice Matanda Moyo (Harare) and Charles Hungwe (Harare).
Chief Justice Chidyausiku did not reveal names of the lazy ones, but said there was no justification for their poor performance as they operated in the same environment with the top performers.
