A 25-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo woman yesterday dragged her father to the maintenance court demanding $250 maintenance.

Rebecca Masuku, allegedly fresh from co-habiting with her lover, approached the courts seeking financial support from her father, Thubelihle Masuku.

She told magistrate Batanai Tuwe that her father had the capacity and means to maintain her.

"My father has a farm in Esigodini and houses in Burnside and Paddonhurst suburbs that he is renting out. He has to give me money because I've failed to find a job and I want to go back to school," she said.

The court heard from Rebecca that her father refused to pay university fees for her hence she approached the maintenance court.

She pleaded with the magistrate to grant her claim saying she had tried to talk to her father but was adamant he was not going to give her money.

"My father told me I will never receive a single cent from him because he has retired but I know he has properties and cattle he can sell to raise the maintenance money," she said.

Masuku told the court that he could only pay fees for his daughter when she provides proof that she got a university place and also returns home.

"Ever since her mother died she has been uncontrollable. She has a son and was living with her boyfriend for the past three years. I could not have supported her when she was co- habiting. She will have to bring the forms confirming which school she has been admitted to. I've not forsaken her but she needs to respect herself and me and move back home to fix her life and future," he said.

Magistrate Tuwe postponed the matter to February 5.
