504 water leaks repaired in Bulawayo in December

Bulawayo city council has reported that in December last year it received 875 reports of water related jobs and repaired 5034 water leaks in the city.
Latest council minutes states that the Acting Director of Engineering Services reported in the month of December 2015, the Workshops had received a total of 875 reports on water related jobs and had attended to 694 leaks. Leaks repaired on service lines totaled 504.
"The leaks had been due to the continued ageing of the City's water reticulation pipes and on the service connections just before the meter most of the connections were in galvanized pipes which corroded quite easily," reads the minutes. "22 leaks on valves and hydrants had been done. To date there was a backlog of 822 water leaks," reads the council report. "A total of 87 reports on burst pipes had been received in the month of December 2015 and had been all promptly attended to. Table 8 below illustrated the intensity of burst pipes per reservoir zone."
