Classes were abandoned at Nyawagi Primary School in Hippo Valley and pupils dismissed early as a swarm of angry bees went on a rampage attacking anyone in sight.
Masvingo Mirror reported that ambulances had to be summoned to the school to ferry injured pupils to hospital. The bees were provoked by a pupil who killed one of them.
Lovewell Matsikire, the deputy head confirmed the incident but referred all questions to the head Sylvester Tazvitya.
A source said the incident resulted in the school calling off lessons at around 10am on Monday as the majority of pupils including some teachers fled the school after the attack by the bees. "The swarm of bees which was at the school`s entrance was provoked by a pupil who was eating a grape. He killed a bee which came for his fruit and this resulted in the swarm attacking the whole school.
Normal lessons resumed at the school on Tuesday and a pest control team from Hippo Valley was on Tuesday busy driving away the bees from the school yard.
