A BULAWAYO man allegedly nearly killed his sister-in-law after striking her three times with a hoe for allegedly stealing his $1.
Mehluli Ndebele, 32, struck Sichelesile Nsukwini, 27, with a hoe and she was hospitalised and later discharged as a result of the attack. Ndebele and Nsukwini live at the same house in Matshobana suburb.
He appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Tancy Dube, facing physical abuse charges. He was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to Monday.
In statement she submitted to the police, Nsukwini said she fled from her room as Ndebele intended to kill her on Friday last week. The man came home at night and accused his sister-in-law of stealing a $1 that he had left in his bedroom.
"Mehluli entered my room and started accusing me of entering his room and stealing his $1. As I was trying to exonerate myself from his accusation, he took a hoe and struck me on my left arm and I sustained deep cuts. He threatened to kill me and I ran way trying to save my life," said Nsukwini.
Prosecuting, Sibekithemba Dube, told the court that on February 12 at around 10PM Ndebele arrived home and accused Nsukwini of stealing his $1 which was in his bedroom.
"The accused then took a hoe and struck the complainant three times on her left arm. She sustained deep cuts on her left arm," said Dube. She was referred to hospital after a police report was made.
Dube said a medical report can be produced in court.
