Drunkard up for indecent assault

A 27-YEAR-OLD Chikanga man - heavily intoxicated - was left with egg on the face after he mistook a fellow tenant's bedroom for his, undressed and caresed the tenants' wife thinking it was his wife.
Vision Machisi (27) who was under the influence of alcohol pleaded not guilty to attempted rape when he appeared before Mutare senior magistrate, Sekai Chiundura.
He was granted $40 bail and the case goes for trial on March 7.
Machisi told the court that he did not remember what happened on the day in question as he was drunk. Mr Fletcher Karombe appeared for the State.
He told the court that the complainant and Machisi were tenants at the same house in Chikanga 1.
"On February 10, the complainant went to bed with her four children. At around 8pm, she heard some noise as her door was being opened. She thought it was her child going to relieve himself in the toilet.
"After a while she felt some hands caresing her breasts and she used her cellphone light to see who it was. She got the shock of her life seeing Machisi with his underwear only," he said.
Her children shouted for help as they thought it was a thief.
Other tenants rushed to assist, not knowing that it was Machisi whose wife was also shocked to see her husband coming out of the tenant's bedroom.
She apologised the next morning on behalf of her husband.
However, Machisi denied ever caresing the complainant's breasts, saying he only undressed thinking he was in his bedroom.
"Your Worship, I cannot deny or accept that I committed the offence because I don't remember everything that happened. I was told by my wife that I was wearing a pant when I came out of the room. I am used to Super Chibuku, but on this particular day I had consumed some whisky," he said.
