PROSECUTORS are seeking an additional charge for a man who allegedly deliberately infected his tenant's 15-year-old daughter with HIV. Michael Muchenjekiwa, 32, of Bulawayo's Sizinda suburb is being charged with sleeping with a minor.

Prosecutor Mufaro Mageza yesterday told Provincial Magistrate Abednico Ndebele the State wanted an additional charge of deliberately infecting the minor with HIV.

Muchenjekiwa and the minor are allegedly boyfriend and girlfriend. "I'm not HIV positive. I didn't infect this girl. I took my last HIV test in July 2015 and I tested negative," said Muchenjekiwa. Ndebele did not ask Muchenjekiwa to plead and remanded him in custody to March 10.

In his last appearance in court Muchenjekiwa said: "I didn't break her v.irginity. When I slept with her she wasn't a v.irgin. "She told me once that she had slept with another man who was her first boyfriend and that man could've been the one who infected her," said Muchenjekiwa.

Mageza told the court that on dates which the girl does not remember, but between November 2015 and January 2016 Muchenjekiwa had sex with her. "On three different occasions the complainant had sex with the accused," said Mageza.

The court heard the matter came to light on January 29 when the girl's mother saw the landlord walking with her daughter "in a suspicious manner." "The mother asked her daughter about her relationship with the landlord. The complainant confessed to her mother," said Mageza.

The prosecutor said the minor was referred to hospital for a medical examination and a medical report can be produced as an exhibit in court.
