Chikomba Rural District Council (RDC) has failed to utilise $42 596 meant for roads despite the fact that most the network under its mandate is in a bad state.
The funds were provided for by the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA).
Masvingo MIrror reported that Councillors expressed displeasure in a full council meeting  held on Friday last week that roads in their respective areas were bad and yet there was $42 596 lying idle.
However, Chikwature said the reason why the funds could not be used was because the grader was not working.
"Lack of equipment barred us from utilising the money in road maintenance. The grader had a breakdown. However, we have drafted a programme on how we will maintain the roads. Our committee will meet this Wednesday to map the way forward," said Chikwature
Chikomba RDC chairman, Alderman Pardon Mudzimu said ZINARA funds were supposed to be fully utilised so that council could receive be considered for next disbursements.
He also urged all councillors to notify the council on every donation for community development they receive, to enable accountability and transparency.local news
