IN a bid to evade assault charges he was facing, a man from Mutare's Yeovil medium-density suburb told a senior magistrate that his wife was cooking up a story against him because he had caught her trying to cast a love spell on him.
Manica Post reported that Knowledge Kativhu (25) denied physically abusing his teenage wife, Loveness Tapanya (18) when he appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Sekai Chiundura.
Representing the State was Fletcher Karombe.
In his defence, Kativhu said he assaulted Tapanya after finding her in possession of traditional herbs. "Your Worship, I found her with some herbs and I suspected that she wanted to cast a love spell on me," he said.
It was the State's case that on February 25 at around 9pm, Kativhu arrived home with some fish and asked his wife to prepare them for him. However, Tapanya told him that she did not know how to prepare fish. Kativhu prepared the fish and ate them with a friend.
"After the meal, Kativhu tried to leave the house with his friend, but Tapanya followed him and grabbed his T-shirt in a bid to stop him. The accused person then assaulted his wife all over the body," said Mr Karombe.
Kativhu was remanded out of custody to March 24, on his own cognisant.
