ZIMBABWEAN cops do not learn one of the most basic courses in any discipline: English and Communication skills, we reveal today.

Addressing graduates at the Ntabazinduna Training Depot on Thursday Commissioner General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Augustine Chihuri disclosed that there are 12 courses (among others) that cop recruits go through in order for them to graduate.

Com Chihuri did not mention which "others" he meant in his address.

These are: Police and Investigations, Criminal Law (Codification and Reform), Police powers, Procedure and the law of Evidence, Foot and Arms Drill, Weapon Handling, First Aid, Public Oder and Disorder management, Human Rights and Use of Firearms, Political history of Zimbabwe, Community Policing, Basic Computer concepts and Basic Accounting.

Missing from the list surprisingly is English and Communication skills, which is traditionally a starter course in any discipline.

For one to be recruited as a police officer in Zimbabwe, they must have passed five ordinary level subjects including mathematics and English language.

However, most cops have the worst language register ever spoken and or written.

Their English incompetency has resulted in them misunderstanding serious facts that adversely affect the professional discharge of their duties and the case outcomes.
