Two daughters-in-laws in Lobengula in Bulawayo have caused a stir by routinely bathing and changing their sickly 82 year old father in law diapers.
This has angered Rosemary Mutemeri and Charity Nyathi's neighbours who view the act as abomination.
Nyathi defended her actions saying when she got married to Jonathan Mbanje's son she vowed to bear all responsibilities.
"At first it was difficult but I am now used to it. Although, it is un-African for a woman to bathe or clean her father-in-law, I have to because sometimes there will be no one at home to bathe or clean him when he messes himself up".
Mbanje's male children are always away from home due to work.
Mutemeri said she even nursed her mother-in-law.
"It is unfortunate that my husband is late but traditionally I am supposed to be compensated for the job that I am doing towards my father-in-law.
"I am not demanding that I should be paid but traditionally failure to do so is tantamount to committing ngozi," she said.
However, neighbours are angry.
"This is strange, we have never seen such a thing in our society, that a woman can bathe her father-in-law and even change his diapers despite the fact that he is sick' said one neighbour.
