A MUTARE polygamous truck driver was last week dragged to court by one of his three wives accusing him of being irresponsible.

The woman, only identified as T.P Kufadzanesa, appeared before Mutare magistrate, Venencia Mugota, complaining that her husband, Maxwell Sithole, was failing to support his children.

She was praying for $200 maintenance for the three children they sired together.

Kufadzanesa told the court that Sithole does not fairly cater for the needs of his three wives and eight children.

"He sired three children with me and the other five with two other wives, but he does not fairly take care of them.

"He favours these two families, while I suffer with my three children. He is a truck driver getting more than $300 per month, so I need between $150 and $200 for the children's school fees, clothes and food.

"Life has been difficult for us and I hope this court will grant me the money I am claiming for maintenance," said Kufadzanesa.

She added that her husband does not give her enough time to enjoy their marriage.

In response, Sithole told the court that he earns less than $300 per month.

"If she takes $200 for three children, how will the other five and their mother survive? That is being heartless and inconsiderate Your Worship. I give these people everything, but she is just being ungrateful. I am a polygamist. She knows that very well and should adjust accordingly," said Sithole.

He offered $15 per child.

"You decided to marry three women, thus you have to come up with means to look after them fairly," said  Mugota.

She ordered Sithole to pay $100 monthly, until the three children are 18-years-old.
