THERE was drama at Mutare Civil Courts this week after a Marange woman and her Mutare-based son disowned the heavily pregnant woman in court.

Manica Post reported that Betty Mutukwa had approached the court seeking for an eviction and a protection order against Moreblessing Nyakunu whom she claimed was disrespecting her despite the fact that they were staying at the same house.

They appeared before magistrate, Yeukai Chigodora.

"If she is my son, Moses' wife as she wants the court to believe, I think she should just look for her husband in Mutare and go and stay with him. Otherwise, I will not have her at my house since its causing me problems with my real daughter-in-law.

"At one time my real daughter-in-law came and there was chaos at the house which ended in the senior wife burning all of her (Nyakunu)'s belongings which were at my house. She is now demanding her belongings daily from me as if I am Moses' wife," said Mutukwa.

Mutukwa described Nyakunu as a violent person who completely ignored the fact that she was the owner of the house she was staying in. Mutukwa claimed that she insulted as well as assaulted her on several occasions.

"She is so disrespectful and yet she is not even my daughter-in-law. I want her to go either to her parents' house or to Moses' house here in Mutare since she claims that he is the one who impregnated her," said the old woman.

Nyakunu, however, dismissed Mutukwa's allegations and said she had never demanded the burnt clothes from her, only that she wanted Moses' Mutare address so that she could go there and not trouble the old woman in the rural areas.

"The matter is pending before our chief's court and all I want from her is Moses' address, but she is refusing to give it to me," she said.

Asked by the magistrate on why he was burdening his mother with his load and not taking care of Nyakunu himself, Moses denied that she was his wife, but only an ex-girlfriend.

"Your Worship, this woman is not my wife. I had an extra-marital relationship with her and now she claims that she is carrying my child out of nowhere," he claimed.

The protection order was granted and Nyakunu was ordered to stop disturbing Mutukwa's peace in any way and was barred from visiting her place of residence.

She was, however, advised to look for Moses' place of residence and elope there.
