A HONDE Valley man was last week slapped with a 12-month jail term after he was convicted of burning his neighbour's house accusing him of having an illicit affair with his wife.

Manica Post reported that Nyanga provincial magistrate, Ignatio Mhene found Fungai Nyamuba (38) guilty of malicious damage to property as defined in Section 140 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9.23.

Public prosecutor,  Kelvin Mufute, told the court that the incident happened on February 26 at Rori Village under Chief Mutasa.

On the day in question at around 7pm, the complainant was on his way to his house when he saw the accused person running away from the scene. Immediately after the accused person vanished, the complainant saw a flame of fire from the roof of his house. A report was made to the police and accused person was identified as the suspect.

Upon being interrogated by the police, Nyamuba admitted that he had torched the house because the complainant had an affair with his wife.

Property destroyed was valued at $309.

Mhene set aside six months of the sentence on condition of good behaviour.
