Chiredzi Rural District Council  (RDC) has resolved to buy motor cycles for its councillors as a measure to increase their mobility in their wards.

Masvingo Mirror reported that Chiredzi RDC Chief Executive Officer Isaac Matsilele confirmed the development to The Mirror and said councillors approved the move which is aimed to increase mobility in the wards some of which are not reachable by roads. He said council budgeted for the motor cycles in their 2016 budget and will fulfil the promise as soon as finances permit.

"As council we sat down and a proposal was approved for us to buy motor cycles for our councillors in-order to address transport shortages. This will increase their movement in their wards most of which are not accessible due to bad roads. It is of our aim to improve the welfare of our councillors which will make them comfortable in their duties. We will buy the cycles when we get money and it will be soon," said Matsilele.

The move is strategic because Chiredzi RDC has 30 wards which are located in rural areas where there is one of the poorest road network in the country. It is about 300km from Chiredzi Town to Davata which makes it difficult for councillors to execute their duties freely using ordinary transport.
