A 26 year old woman from Beatrice had to go to hospital holding her protruding intestines in her hands after her husband allegedly stabbed her in the abdomen with a broken beer bottle.
Masvingo Mirror reported that the incident happened at a night club.
Letwin Madya was stabbed after a misunderstanding with her husband Simbarashe Mutoredzanwa (26) who is an ex-cop at Beatrice Police Station.
Mutoredzanwa appeared before Chivhu Regional Magistrate Solomom Jenya on Wednesday last week facing attempted murder charges. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Mutoredzanwa admitted that he had a misunderstanding with his wife on that day but he told the court that she accidentally fell on a broken bottle that he was holding.
"She actually fell on the broken beer bottle. I had no intention to kill her. If I wanted, I would have stabbed her on the right side of the chest or at the neck," he said in his defence.
Madya told the court that her husband threatened to kill her whenever they had misunderstandings.
"We were on separation and some time ago he got into my room through the window and excreted in there. Days later, he came demanding his faeces, threatening to kill me if I failed to produce them," she said.
The court, led by prosecutor Nicholas Mabvongodze, heard that on February 4 2016, at around 10 in the evening, Madya was at Beatrice Restaurant Night Club when her husband saw her.
Mutoredzanwa charged towards her and told her he wanted to kill her. He then dragged Madya some metres away from the restaurant and broke a black label beer bottle and stabbed her in the abdomen. She sustained laceration about 6 centimetres long and her bowels gushed out from the stomach.
With the help of some people, Madya was rushed to hospital while others apprehended the accused and took him to the police.
Mutoredzanwa was remanded in custody for continuation of trial.
