A total of 26 water leaks have been detected along the Mtshabezi pumping line  and pumping from Mtshabezi for the month totaled 18,384cubic meters  and a total pumping from  Mtshabezi for the year 2015 was 4,235,520m month.

Latest Bulawayo council minutes state that  there were 26 leaks on the Delivery Line.

"A total of 26 leaks had been encountered on the transmission pipelines. 17 leaks had been done in January 2016 and the remaining 9 leaks had been done in February 2016," reads the minutes. "This had led to depressed supply of water from Mtshabezi Dam. Debate ensued and Councillor G. Mangena was concerned about the leaks encountered on the pipelines considering that the project was new."

In response the Acting Director of Engineering Services indicated that leaks were caused by poor quality of pipes used. Pvc (plastic) pipes were not durable compared to galvanised and asbestos pipes. ZINWA had promised to attend to the leakages, however nothing had been done so far.

"There were pumping challenges due to poor transmission poles," reads the minutes.
