A JEALOUSY second wife who has been disturbing the peace of the first wife has been ordered by a Mutare magistrate to keep peace with her senior.
Manica Post reported that having had enough of the incessant insults, threats and assaults, the senior wife, Juliet Mhute, dragged her co-wife, Maidei Mukai to theMutare Civil Courts where they appeared before magistrate, Yeukai Chigodora. Mhute described Mukai as a violent person who could not fathom the fact that she (Mhute) had been married first and wanted to deprive her of her seniority.
She said: "Your Worship, this woman is so jealousy because I am a senior wife so she throws my property outside and chases me away from my home. I have been married for close to 10 years now and she was married just last year, yet she acts as if I was the one who came to disturb her marriage."
She said Mukai was a violent person who ignored the fact that their husband had built her a house, but she wanted to occupy it.
"I have had enough of her, our husband has since built her own house, but she still comes to my house, throws my property out, soaks my bed with water and threatens to kill me. She grabs my keys and at one time she struck me with a stone and shouted that I had to leave," she told the court.
Mhute told the court that Mukai had confiscated her undergarments. Responding to the allegations, Mukai said Mhute was violent.
"As I speak, I am staying at my mother-in-law's homestead because of this violent woman who claims to be my senior. She is not my senior because my husband does not love her anymore. She should go and I will become the senior," she said.
"I never assaulted her. We fought after she had come to my house and insulted me," she said.
A binding protection order was granted by Chigodora.
