THE owner of Pharmacy Chemistry situated along Herbert Chitepo Street in Mutare was assaulted by a fellow pool club member following a misunderstanding over the exclusion of the suspect from the team which was supposed to play at Mandisa Night Club.
Manica Post reported that George Mutavayi (39), who is also one of the sponsor and treasurer of the club, was hit twice with a pool stick on the forehead by Dellan Chasaya. It was the State case led by Fletcher Karombe that on March 20 at around 6pm, Mutavayi who is the team captain of Moto Moto Pool Club, selected a team to play in the singles game category.
Mutavayi did not select Chasaya to be in the first team because he came late for the game.
However, this did not go down well with Chasaya who insisted that he was supposed to play in the first team. It is alleged that Chasaya ran amok and hit Mutavayi with the stick.
He later sent abusive text messages to Mutavayi on the same day. Asked why he committed the offence, Chasaya told the court that he was angry to be left out of the team.
"I was angry because I was left out to play in the first team. I know I am the best and I qualify to feature in the first team," Chasaya said.
Sekai Chiundura ordered him to pay $80 for the assault and $50 fine for sending abusive text messages.
Failure to pay the fine will constitute 30 days imprisonment. Chiundura advised him to desist from violent behaviour.
"You don't resort to violence to solve matters because bullying others constitutes a criminal offence."
Chashaya had brushes with the law in the past as he was arrested two weeks ago for assaulting socialite, Nathan Manyuchi at Bar Code Night Club.
