An investigation team appointed by the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing has given council 48 hours to make a Police report against Chiredzi Town Council Chairman Francis Moyo for making a false Police report.
Masvingo Mirror reported that Moyo allegedly lied that he was not driving a council vehicle that was involved in an accident when in fact he was the driver.
Directive to have Moyo arrested was given to Chiredzi Town Secretary Charles Muchatukwa by the auditors on Tuesday this week.
Moyo confirmed the development but Muchatukwa declined to comment on the matter.
The auditors also refused to comment saying that they had no powers to discuss issues pertaining to their work.
Accusations against Moyo are that he lied to the Police after an accident that the vehicle was being driven by a council driver.
"Yes I can confirm that there is a directive which says a Police report must be made against me for allegedly lying to Police that a council driver and not I was driving the vehicle when it crashed sometimes last month. I am shocked by the move since l never drove that vehicle on that day. We will hold an emergency full council meeting on Thursday to deliberate the issue and a resolution will be made," said Moyo.
The four member team which is led by a Chief Accountant from the Ministry of Local Government Alpha Nhamo also comprises Engineer Zuva, R. Nyamowa and Chinganga. It was dispatched by the Ministry after several complaints were raised by residents associations over mismanagement at the town house.
