THE hair-raising case of the Zimunya family that is being tormented by mysterious fires continued at the chief's court on Sunday with an avenging spirit of a woman manifesting during proceedings to exonerate Elisha Konogwere who was being accused of being behind the misfortunes.

Manica Post reported that the spirit of Mbuya Gide finally revealed itself and manifested through Elisha's daughter (name withheld) exonerating him of any wrong doing.

It said he was targeted because the people that bewitched his father were not satisfied and wanted to inflict more suffering in the family.

Mbuya Gide said her avenging spirit wanted to expose the truth and shame the perpetrators.

"There is a lot of envy and hatred in this family (Kanogwere) and this is fueling these mysterious fires. The people who killed me together with my son, Gide, stole my spirit using sandawana creatures. These are the same creatures they are using on Elisha to start the fires.

"The witches behind these unexplained fires are six people, three women and three men. The two men (names withheld) are from Bvirindi Village, while the three women and the other man (names withheld) are from Kwekwe. I was part of this group in the spiritual underworld, but I left them, which is why I want to expose them through you Chief (Zimunya)," she said.

Mbuya Gide said she decided to manifest through the girl at the chief's court to expose what has been going on in his land.

"This girl collapses because my colleagues in the spiritual underworld practise their witchcraft on her using a clay pot (mbiya)," said the avenging spirit.

The summoned family elders who were present, Habour and Wonder Kanogwere had all fingered Elisha as the cause of the fires.

They said the reason why the mysterious fires only followed him was because he had skeletons in his closet.

Wonder said there was no smoke without fire.

"A fly will never fly around where there is no open-wound (Nhunzi haimhari pasina chironda). Elisha was named after his grandfather Noel. He was even given his grandfathers stick (tsvimbo) and bag. These fires are following him and we suspect it is his own doing," said Wonder. Habour said all this was because of wealth enhancing charms.

Acting Chief Zimunya said he wanted due diligence on the matter and would use his customary practice of consulting. He said there was need for the family to work together and resolve the matter. "Parents please let's learn to work hard with our hands and not to rush for overnight riches through goblins. I expect this matter to be put to rest in no more than two weeks because there is the life of an innocent child involved who has not been going to school for three years now because of this problem," said the Chief.
