MASVINGO City Council has resolved to repossess all undeveloped stands in the city, a situation which will result in at least 200 residents and companies losing their stands.

Sunday News reported that according to latest minutes of public works committee meeting held recently, the local authority noted that owners of the stands will have an option to either dispose them or lose them to council.

The meeting agreed that while there was an appreciation of the obtaining economic situation where many people had no disposable income, there was need for beneficiaries of residential or business stands to develop them within 10 years.

According to the available information more than 200 residential and business stands allocated to individuals and organisations in Masvingo have remained undeveloped for more than 10 years.

"We have agreed to approach the Government and individuals owning portions of land with a view of repossessing them for business development. The need to repossess undeveloped stands with some having been designated for residential purposes remains paramount as we want to sell to potential developers, especially the land in the Central Business District (CBD)," reads part of the minutes.

Mayor Councillor Hubert Fidze confirmed the new developments and said council was concerned with people who hold on to pieces of land in the city yet they were reluctant to develop them.
