THE Governor and Resident Minister of Bulawayo metropolitan city, Ambassador Cain Mathema yesterday attacked Professor Welshman Ncube accusing him of failing to deliver his promises.
Prof Ncube leads the Movement for Democratic Change.
Mathema, who was speaking at the presentation of the Cabinet report on the revival of Bulawayo industries said:
"Prof Ncube must deliver what he promises to the people. Our people need to work, they need the money.
"Our people are now tired of these fruitless workshops" he said.
However, the secretary general of the MDC has responded to Mathema's attacks saying:
"Mathema must attend to his woes in Tsholotsho. What has he done for Bulawayo besides reading the presidents' speech at the heroes acre?
"Development is not writing long and boring sovereinigty articles in the Chronicle, it is reviving industries like what Prof Ncube did at Ziscosteel," he said.
Ironically, Small Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development minister Sithembiso Nyoni stood up at the same meeting and urged everyone to support the taskforce and Prof Ncube.
"We must support this taskforce and the minister of industry, "she said.
In May this Government set up the distressed fund to provide working capital to Bulawayo companies which have suffered from financial marginalization.
This was followed by the formation of the eight member taskforce team chaired by Prof Ncube whose mandate was to investigate the problems affecting the city's industry and come up with recommendations.
Among the recommendations it proposed, the taskforce reported that the city needed about US$50 million to restore Bulawayo's pride as the country's industrial hub.
US$40 million has been allocated for that but has not be given to the companies because of logistical reasons.
