BCC town clerk post a two horse race
27 Apr 2016 at 09:28hrs | Views
THE race for Bulawayo City Council vacant town clerk post is a two horse race between Acting Town Clerk Sikhangele Zhou and Bulawayo provincial administrator Khonzani Ncube.
However, council sources say Ncube has a slight edge over Zhou as Zanu PF would want her to take up the post by all means.
This, sources say would allow Zanu PF to a foothold on council affairs.
The pair is among short-listed eight candidates.
"Ncube has high chances of landing the post. Local Government minister and Zanu PF Commissar, Kasukuwere is watching the developments with keen interest" said an insider.
"This presents a perfect chance for Zanu PF to control the MDC-T led council. Zhou was reluctant to put her name up for consideration".
The other six in the race are Lupane local board town secretary Gilbert Dube, former BCC Chamber Secretary and Plumtree town council secretary Davies Luthe, Chitungwiza town secretary George Makunde, former Tsholotsho Rural District Council chief executive officer Ronnie Dube, Hwange Colliery finance manager Gift Sibanda and former MDC-T Bulawayo provincial administrator Nkululeko Ndlovu.
The city Town Clerk's position fell vacant following the death of Middleton Nyoni in September last year.
