THREE soldiers were this week arraigned before the courts facing charges of assaulting two police officers who wanted to arrest a suspect.
Manmica Post reported that Claytos Bindiko (30) who resides in Glenview 1, Harare, Leeroy Chigiya (30) of House Number 10742, Kuwadzana, Harare and Rephias Svinurai (30) of House Number 6, Madziwa Street, Rimuka, Kwekwe were not asked to plead when they appeared before Mutare
senior magistrate, Sekai Chiundura on Monday.
They were each granted $50 bail and are expected back in the dock on May 9 for trial.
Circumstances surrounding the matter were that on April 23, the two police officers arrested Bindiko who was involved in an assault case at Soul City Sports Bar.
This did not go down well with his friends, Chigiya and Svinurai and three other unidentified men who subsequently attacked the police officers. However, the police officers were assisted by members of the public to arrest the assailants.
Three of the suspects bolted from the scene.
