FOR pushing a suspected thief into a drainage canal which was full of water and instructing him to remain in the water, a Hob-house man will do 235 hours of unpaid work.

Manica Post reported that Stanford Kaunda was convicted on his own guilty plea when he admitted to assaulting Hulbert Nyazira (43).

Kaunda had appeared before Mutare senior magistrate, Sekai Chiundura.Responding to the allegations, Kaunda said that the complainant had stolen his hedge cutter and therefore he was trying to teach him a lesson not to steal again.

Circumstances surrounding the matter were that Kaunda met Nyazira and confronted him over the disappearance of his hedge cutter.

Nyazira sustained injuries on his forehead and a swollen face following the assault.

Chiundura told him that he deserved a stiffer penalty as he had acted unlawfully.

She also told him that he ought to have reported the matter of his stolen hedge cutter to the police and not to put the law into his own hands like what he did.
