A 26-YEAR-OLD Mutare woman allegedly defrauded Teecherz Furnishers $10 000.

Manica Post reported that Lily Nyaradzo Chitepo who is now employed by Topics Stores was not asked to plead when she appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura last week.

Chitepo was remanded out of custody to Friday on $200 bail. She was ordered not to interfere with State witnesses, to continue residing at her given address, surrender her passport and to report once every week at Mutare Central Police Station's Fraud Section. Representing the State was Fletcher Karombe.

It was the State's case that Chitepo who was formerly employed by Teecherz Furnishers, Mutare in 2011 and 2012 as a sales cashier fraudulently opened accounts in various names of non-existent people.

"She opened accounts in the names of Gracious Muchaonyerwa, Constance Mahati, Charity Mwarumba, Zivenji Magugunyeki, Constance Mazambani, Patience Chagonda, Miriah Manganga, Tendai Maphosa, Prince Chinopfukutwa, Patience Chinyati and Blessing Musona.

"She then misrepresented facts to the company that the above people had purchased various items at Teecherz Furnishers, Mutare, yet they had not," said Karombe.

It was alleged that Chitepo was the one who processed the accounts and prepared the manual invoices for the products that were believed to have been purchased by customers.

Karombe further alleged that acting on the misrepresentation, Chitepo removed the said products from the shop and sold them. She allegedly converted the money to her own use. The total value stolen is $10 590, 82 and nothing was recovered.
