The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) is reportedly working on the drilling of 20 more boreholes in Nyamandlovu as a way of augment the water supply to the Bulawayo city residents.
According to Bulawayo City Council latest minutes, there were currently 22 operational boreholes in Nyamandlovu.
"During the past year ZINWA through GIZ had rehabilitated 17 best yielding boreholes. ZINWA had been working on 20 additional boreholes through internal funds," reads the minutes.
"In December ZINWA managed to complete the rehabilitation of the 10
boreholes and pumping trials to Rochester reservoir had been done. However,
it was discovered that there had been water bursts occurring on the pumping
mains due to corrosion of the line on stream crossings."
The council said ZINWA was working on the mainline to bring the operational boreholes to 32.
After the completion of the refurbishments, the anticipated water available for abstraction from Nyamandlovu would average 12months.
