THERE was commotion near a service station in Mpopoma when residents and motorists were left scurrying for cover after a prominent Bulawayo businessman reportedly fired four shots at another motorist whom he accused of having seriously assaulted his younger brother.
The businessman's younger brother who is reported to have been seriously beaten is recuperating at Mpilo Hospital.
Allegations against the businessman Christopher Moyo (43) of Number 14874 Mtshwayeli Road Selbourne Park and proprietor of Hova Transport are that he abused his firearm issued for the purpose of protecting cash in transit when he negligently discharged it against Mqondisi Ndlovu.
It is reported that the spectacular incident, which reads like a Hollywood movie script, occurred on 2 October at around 8 pm.
It is alleged that on the day in question Moyo who was driving along Nketa Drive when he got to the intersection of Nketa Drive and Hyde Park near a Garage in Mpopoma, noticed Ndlovu who was driving in front of him.
Moyo alleged that Ndlovu had seriously assaulted his younger brother Shepherd.
In a bid to mete out instant justice to Ndlovu he quickly drove past him and blocked him by stopping his vehicle in front of him. Ndlovu sensing danger, is reported to have made a u-turn and drove off to the opposite direction leaving Moyo in quandary.
Realising that his adversary was escaping, Moyo is alleged to have fired four shots towards Moyo but missed his target.
Moyo, following his close shave went to Mabuthweni Police Base and reported the matter.
The accused person was later arrested and was found in possession of a Baretta Make 32 Calibre pistol with a magazine of two rounds of ammunition.
Upon his arrest it was discovered that the firearm was issued only for the purpose of protecting cash in transit.
Moyo for the offence of abusing the firearm was brought before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tawanda Muchemwa.
He was facing with two counts of contravening sections 27 (c) and 4 (c) of the Fire Arms Act Chapter 10:09 (negligently discharging firearm and failing to comply with any conditions subject to which the fire arm certificate is held). For both counts he was not formally charged and was remanded $100.
Mr Malvern Nzombe appeared for the State.
