A DANGAMVURA man who sold his mother's household property without her consent has been jailed for four months.
Manica Post reported that Simbiso Justin Miel Chiwara (28) pleaded guilty to the two counts of unlawful disposal as defined in Section 4 as read with Section 3(K) of the Domestic Violence Act, Chapter 5:16.Chiwara appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Sekai Chiundura, while Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.
Chiwara had initially been slapped with an eight-month jail term on both counts, but four months were suspended on condition of good behaviour and that he restitutes his mother, Phillomena Chiwara (65) of her goods worth $184.
It was alleged that Chiwara stole a frying pan, three large Kango pots, six dinner plates, several coffee mugs, and an iron from his mother's kitchen and sold them without her knowledge.
On another occasion, he stole four coffee mugs, a water jar and a milk jar from the same complainant.
Value of stolen goods is $184 and nothing was recovered.
On all occasions, Chiwara used a duplicate key while his mother was away and entered the house to steal the said properties.
Responding to the allegations, Chiwara told the court that he was in need of money to settle debts.
The court, however, advised him to use his hands to work and not to steal from his aged mother.
