For possessing mbanje a Mutare man will spend the next two months behind bars.
Manica Post reported that Matthew Chabanga pleaded guilty when he appeared before Sekai Chiundura for possessing 17 sachets of mbanje. Flecther Karombe appeared for the State. "On May 2 at around 3pm, Constables Kagodora, Betera and Kusena were on a crime prevention deployment at Village Six when they received a tip-off that the accused person was peddling mbanje.
"Constables searched his bedroom and found 17 sachets of mbanje hidden under his blankets. He was arrested," said Karombe.
Chabanga told the court that he was not a drug dealer, but he wanted to use the mbanje to cure asthma.
"I never bought it for resale, but wanted to use it to cure asthma. I used to mix it with honey to cure asthma," he pleaded.
He was slapped with a four-month jail term, of which two months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
"Crime does not pay Chabanga, therefore, you have to desist from using mbanje as medicine, but rather look for relevant professionals to treat your illness," said Chiundura.
