Harare Residents Trust has reported that some councillors claimed that the Harare City Council is failing to raise funds to advertise by-laws for
illegal structures.
The trust said Councillor Peter Moyo and Mahachi seconded Councillor Kufahakutizwi concured on the opinion.
"The council is failing to raise funds to advertise by-laws for illegal structures, e.g. churches. What is the work plan in terms of trying to
balance with those who want to worship in open places," the councillors are reported to have said.
Acting Town Clerk Josephine Ncube replied that no council open space should be used, saying instead churches should apply and be given approval to build proper legal structures.
Harare recently saw many illegal houses being destroyed much to the chagrin of many citizens in the capital city.
