Chiredzi Farmer in court over rape

A farmer and a security officer at an office in Chiredzi was arrested last week for allegedly raping a minor that he looked after.

He allegedly threatened to stop paying fees for the girl who is his neice if she reported the matter.

According to Masvingo Mirror, Tadius Sibanda (51) of 1027/43 Crocodile Road, Tshovani, Chiredzi has appeared before Chiredzi regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu facing allegations of raping his neice whom he resides with as a thank you for paying her school fees.

The accused who collected the minor in 2012 from her rural home in Filabusi in order to send her to school took advantage of the minor by allegedly raping her several times from 2013 up to 2016.

Liberty Hove appearing for the state told the court that on an unknown date but in the year 2013, at farm 15 Hippo Valley the complainant was in the cane guarding crops when the accused allegedly came to the field and found the complainant alone. The accused reminded the complainant that she was his niece and was the one paying fees before raping her.

The matter came to light when her aunt Oznet Sibanda realised that the girl had become sexually active. Sibanda who is represented by Georgina Ndava of Mangwana and Partners was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to May 20, 2016.
