A Zanu PF stalwart Douglas Chitekuteku in Macheke has died.
According to a political commentator Pedzisayi Ruhanya was allegedly known for violence in the area.
"Douglas Chitekuteku popularly known as Cde Chitekuteku in Zanu PF circles in the farming community of Macheke has died. Described as a war veteran, he was accused by the state of shooting dead David Stevens one of the first five white commercials murdered in April 2000 during the farm occupations but arrested five months after the slaying," Ruhanya posted on Facebook.
"Stevens died after he was abducted from his farm on 15 April 2000. Chitekuteku was part of the Zanu PF vigilante groups accused the violent June 2000 that left at least 31 people dead and thousands homeless, most of them opposition supporters."
