The Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs has urged society to embrace inmates who were released on the Presidential Amnesty and help them reintegrate into the society.
This follows the release of more than 2 000 inmates under the Presidential Amnesty.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Permanent Secretary Mrs Virginia Mabhiza says the successful re-integration of pardoned inmates lies in the hands of society.
She said these inmates must be given a second chance as most of them have repented through rehabilitation programmes offered in all correctional centres across the country.
Mrs Mabhiza, however, encouraged the inmates to use skills they acquire in prison to change their way of life and desist from committing other offences.
There has been concerns over the release of some inmates who are believed to be unrepentant with reports of some being habitual offenders.
However, the review of jails to correctional centres through the 2013 constitution is expected to yield better results as inmates go to jail to reform.
