A 31-year-old male prisoner who was serving an 18-month jail term escaped from Mutare Farm Prison last Saturday and is still at large.
Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, Manicaland Region Principal Prison Officer, Liberty Mhlanga, said Luxon Mutumbu who was working in the piggery section made good his escape at around 8am and could not be located.
"We have since launched a manhunt to re-arrest Mutumbu who escaped through the farm's piggery section.
He was convicted for housebreaking and theft and was serving 18 months with labour. He was due to be released on February 16, 2017," he said.
"Anyone with information leading to his arrest should contact us or the nearest police station," he said.
Last year, fugitive, Kenneth Mubvumbi (29), who is serving two years at Mutare Remand Prison escaped and disappeared into the adjacent Murahwa Hills.
Mubvumbi escaped while doing maintenance work with eight other convicts under the guard of two armed prison guards.
He tricked one of the guards into believing that he was relieving himself, yet he was scaling the perimeter fence.
