A STUDENT with a Mutare college was sentenced to nine months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to stealing his friend's bank ATM card and went on to withdraw cash without his knowledge.

Manica Post reported that Takesure Mushumbi (26) will, however, serve an effective three months after six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour and that he restitutes Bornface Mandiuraya of his $924.

Mushumbi was convicted on his own guilty plea when he appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate,  Lucie-Anne Mungwari last week.

 Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

Circumstances surrounding the matter were that sometime in April, Mandiuraya misplaced his CABS ATM bank card in his house and told Mushumbi about the lost card.

A few days later Mushumbi requested the complainant's PIN number saying he wanted to help him block the lost card at the bank.

"After being given the PIN number, Mushumbi went on to withdraw $924, 95 from Mandiuraya's bank account in Mutare," said Karombe.

It was further alleged that on May 7, Mandiuraya went to CABS Dangamvura with the intention of withdrawing money, but only found $352 in his savings account.
After requesting for an account statement from the bank, Mandiuraya found out that someone had withdrawn the money from his account at a point of sale at TM Mutare.

He visited the supermarket and requested for CCTV footage which showed that the money was withdrawn by Mushumbi as it was visible from the CCTV shots," said  Karombe.
