PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe is in the City of Kings and Queens for a graduation ceremony at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust).
Mugabe whose health has been subject to speculation by the media, the opposition political parties and members of the former ruling party he leads – Zanu PF.
The streets here are littered with police details and members of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation have literally invaded all the bars in the city.
"There are so many strange guys this week in town. They drink a lot of whisky," said a waitress at a local pub.
Nust has been in the press for all wrong reasons ranging from lecturers conducting lessons in Shona to the University failing to have a single banking hall despite it being the main finance and science school in the country.
A student at the University said he expected the President to make a speech that will usher new reforms at the learning institution.
"I just pray that he says one or two things to the administration, maybe things can be better for us. For example, ground men and cleaners have been working overtime to spruce up the image of the college.
"Some lecturers who last came to work last month also started making surprise appearances and we have witnessed their sober faces for the first time," said a female student who requested anonymity.
It is customary for members of the security agents to invade any place where the Head of State and Commander-in Chief of the Defense Forces visits.
