MINES and minerals minister Obert Mpofu has said he has never been poor in life and people should stop waffling about his riches.

Minister Mpofu, who is fabulously wealthy, was addressing journalists at the Harare press club last Wednesday when he said, "You say I am wealthy, but I have never been poor. There is some story in the paper that I own the tallest building in Bulawayo. You are making me more important than I am.

"Yes I own a tall building, but not the tallest building," he said.

Mpofu went on to tell the scribes that he bought the building (York House) situated at the corner of 8th avenue and Herbert Chitepo street from Old Mutual in the late 90s or early 2000s and urged "those who want to know more" to go the Deeds office and find out what is there.

Mpofu was reacting to reports that he has purchase 27 properties in Victoria Falls. The prosperities include:
1.      A supermarket in Chinotimba suburb
2.      An industrial stand in Chinotimba suburb
3.      Three houses in the medium density area
4.      Two cruise boats on the Zambezi
5.      Five houses in Mkhosana High density suburb
6.      Two industrial stands
7.      Four industrial stands along airport road
8.      Four medium density plots.

Mpofu has also openly claimed that he is President Robert Mugabe's son and has made sure that he donates the largest at any given Zanu PF function Matabeleland North. He has ambitions of becoming the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
