QUICK thinking and action by the police saw four suspected robbers who broke into a Bambazonke shop in Mutare District and made good
with property worth $5 000 nabbed at a roadblock last Saturday.
Manica Post reported that Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the arrest of Lovemore Dinha, Samuel Nhete, Cainos Zimunya and Marshal Masaiti.
He said the four were arrested at a police roadblock mounted at Bezel Bridge after they had outpaced police officers who were giving a
chase.
"On June 11 and at around 2am, the four, Dinha, Nhete, Zimunya and Masaiti arrived at Bambazonke Business Centre in a Honda Fit,
Registration Number ACT 7152. They broke a screen door of one of the shops at the business centre using an iron bar.
"They gained entry and proceeded to steal new clothes worth $5 000. They packed them into two travelling bags which they threw into
their car," he said.
Asst Insp Chananda said one Constable Sabao received a tip-off of the robbery and teamed up with two other police officers to investigate.
As soon as the police team arrived at the shopping centre, the robbers sped off.
"Police gave chase in their vehicle. When the suspects realised that police were gaining ground, they stopped their vehicle, took to their
heels and disappeared into the darkness," said Asst Insp Chananda.
When police arrived where the Honda Fit had been abandoned, they realised that three of its tyres had burst. The stolen property worth $5
000 was recovered from the abandoned vehicle.
Police raised alarm and a roadblock was mounted at Bezel Bridge where the four suspects were arrested.
