A FORM one pupil at Eastview High School in Mahatshula was on Sunday severely attacked by seven dogs which had strayed into the school premises.

The pupil, Carryn Chengeta a boarder at the school was attacked while she was on her way to the dining hall from the dormitories at about 5pm.

Officials said the girl was saved by the guard who rushed to the scene after he heard some of the pupils screaming.

She was taken to a private doctor by the school's boarding master, Mr Ernest Malunga, where she received treatment.

Mr Malunga confirmed the incident.

"There is another side of the school where the wall was broken down when our neighbours were putting a pipe, this is where the dogs entered through. We have, however, engaged the council on the issue of stray dogs in our area because we would want to ensure our pupils are safe," said Mr Malunga.

A source at the school said it was was not the first time the dogs had strayed into the premises.

"The dogs are always roaming around the school premises and there is nothing we can do as the school is not fully fenced. We suspect these are stray dogs that managed to find a way into the school," said the source.

Last year another pupil at the school was bitten by dogs that belonged to the institution after evening studies. Eastview High School is a private day and boarding co-educational institution which was established in 2010.
