Donkeys stolen and slaughtered for medicine

FOR months donkeys kept disappearing in Mmakau Village, North West.
And on Saturday morning the owners at last found their donkeys at their favourite tavern.
But all 42 missing animals had been killed!
Their shocked owners were greeted by a death stench as well as donkey heads and skins. Their meat was in freezers.
The Chinese owner had been stealing the animals and meant to ship the meat to China.
When confronted about the matter, the owner of Reginald's Restaurant said: "We need the donkeys in China.
"They make good medicine for women when they are dry."
This has left a bitter taste in the mouths of the donkey owners.
Josias Modau said he lost six donkeys last Wednesday.
"The donkeys were my source of income.
"I used them for transport and could earn up to R1 000 a day. Now my family is going to suffer."
He said sending the Chinese man to jail won't help him.
"I want him to buy new donkeys for me and pay for my lost income," he said.
Another man said he had lost three donkeys.
