A knobkerrie-wielding Bulawayo man chased his wife and children from home after his daughter was impregnated by his neighbour for the second time.
This came to light at the court appearance of Fanlick Daka (46) of Richmond who was facing charges of physical abuse.
Bulawayo magistrate Tancy Dube-Chipumha sentenced him to three months in prison, wholly suspended for five years on condition he does not commit a similar offence within that period.
When asked why he was abusing his wife and children, Daka said he thought he was reprimanding his daughters and thought their mother was responsible for their behaviour. "I apologise to the court and my wife. I plead for a non-custodial sentence. I am the family's sole breadwinner," said Daka.
Charges against Daka were that on January 18 at 11pm, he was at his home in Richmond with his wife and an aunt where they were discussing his daughter who was impregnated by a neighbour for the second time.
While still discussing the issue, he got angry and took a knobkerrie and ordered his wife to accompany the daughter next door.
However, the daughter bolted from the house and disappeared into the night.
Daka went wild prompting his wife and children to leave the house and sleep at a neighbour's house until the following morning.
They then went to anti-domestic violence advocacy group Musasa Project for advice and the matter was reported to the police leading to Daka's arrest.
