A Bulawayo woman has been dragged to court after she allegedly faked a marriage certificate with an Egyptian man in an attempted to help him not to be deported.
Marry Phiri (52) pleaded guilty to the violation of the Immigration Act when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Gladmore Mushove. She was sentenced to six months in jail.
Three months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. The remaining three months were suspended for 105 hours of community service.
The court heard that on the 10th of February 2014 at 10am in Bulawayo, Phiri crafted a counterfeit marriage certificate purporting to be married to Kamal Atla Ebada Boush who is an Egyptian so that he will not have any restrictions of being in Zimbabwe.
On November 26 Ebada was arrested by the Immigration staff for remaining in the country illegal. Phiri went to the Immigration offices where she produced the fake marriage certificate leading to her arrest.
