Former students donate to Magwegwe Secondary School

What started as a group chat on Whatsapp recently yielded results when Pioneer students of 1985 at Magwegwe Secondary School met online and started conversing. They then bore a plan to do something for the school that nurtured them all those years ago.
WhatsApp group, Form Fours 1985, the brainchild of author and poet Dumisani Gumpo and Mthobi Ndlovu a Customs official in Zimbabwe brought together over 50 of their stream of 1982 when they entered the gates of Magwegwe Secondary School as young and ignorant kids, last Friday donated over $500 for the 2016 Prize Giving Ceremony.
The group was represented by a few led by successful businessman Mr Sikhumbuzo Mthimkhul. "We are not only doing this for publicity purposes", said Mr Mthimkhulu, " But to show others that we don't have to neglect the Schools that nurtured us all those years ago. It is actually the beginning not the end for this brilliant team. Being on the ground at the school got us to interact with teachers and further identified needs for the school. We are definitely sourcing some computers for the students in the near future". Said Mthimkhulu
He said their group will also assume an advisory role to the Old Students Association as a council of elders. Goods that were donated to the school were forwarded to the achieving students of 2016. Mthimkhulu gave a speech on behalf of the group.

Magwegwe Secondary School opened its doors in 1982 with the first group of students from the surrounding. The school was then headed by the late Mr Gerald Evans, a known disciplinarian.
Accepting the goods, the current headmaster of the school, thanked the pioneer students of the school and urged other students to emulate the pioneers. Other former students who made it to the ceremony were Sithembiso, Sifiso and Sithenjisiwe who are teachers and an administrator respectively.
